How do you find out if you can write?

There's only one way really. One way or another you have to put your head on the chopping block and get your writing out there for people to see.

Now that can be done in  a few ways, on a blog, at a place like Fanstory (link on the left) or off to the publishers. But what if they laugh off the seat, what if they say I suck? Well, easy, if you want to be a writer develop a hide as thick as an elephant and never give up.

Commit yourself to the task of learning the craft. Truly it is not just a case of bunging a story on paper and getting a best seller. Writing success comes as does success in other fields, via hard work.

But if you love it, then all well and good. Unless you have a bucket load of money to promote yourself you really need to be able to commit time to getting your name out there.

After two years of learning as much as I could about the writing business online I now run my business from home. I try not to put all my eggs in one basket and do some freelancing as well. This gets you well-rounded and hopefully a few bucks will come from somewhere or other.

The very best way to learn what to write is by reading. Read what's current, read what reviewers are saying, get around the e-pubbers and see what they are asking for.

Fiction is hot, historicals are still loved, Paranormals are as well. Erotica is here to stay and a resurgence of those sweet romances is evident. Identify exactly what it is you like about your fave books and try to put that into your writing.

Questions are most welcome

sincerely

Anna
