Jokes & PicturesWednesday, March 1, 2006

Since I've done everything I think I need to do with this blog, I'll just post more jokes and pictures, enjoy!

A broke blonde decides to ask God for help. "Dear Lord," she prays, "if I don't get some cash, I'm gonna lose everything. Please let me win the lottery."

Lottery night comes, but the blonde doesn't win. She prays even harder, saying, "God, why have you forsaken me? My children are starving. Please just let me win this once."

Suddenly there is a blinding flash of light, and the blonde hears God speak.

"Sweetheart, work with me on this," he says. "Buy a ticket."

One day at the pearly gates, Jesus was in charge of accepting people into heaven. Time passed and nothing interesting happened until it was an old mans turn to be accepted. Jesus started to ask the usual questions:

- Hello son, what was you occupation during your time on earth?

- I was a carpenter, the old man replied.

- Really? Jesus started to think back at his old life and got curious, did you have any children?

- Yes, the old man replied, I had a son but he was taken away from me...

Jesus got really curious and asked:

- What did he look like?

- He had holes in his hands and his feet. Jesus was shocked, leaned closer to the old man and asked:

- Father?

The old man lit up and asked with tears in his eyes:

- Pinocchio?

Why did the little girl fall off the swing?

Because she had no arms.

Why did the fish fall out the tree?

Because it doesn't have any arms

Opinion on article/issue.Wednesday, March 1, 2006

The author of the article of which I summarized was incredibly unbiased in his writing. The article gave no hints as to whether he was for or against the new laws. I myself think some new laws are necessary, but the ones intorduced are way to tough and unfair.

Summary of Article.Wednesday, March 1, 2006

This article is about how Australia's federal government has reached an agreement with the state government to introduce neer and tougher terrorist laws. In the end all state leaders agreed to the laws, with one promise in return, that the laws will be revised in 5 years time. The new laws allow the goverment to imprison people for up to two weeks without trial. The laws were brought in mainly to intimidate Indonesian terrorists from doing anything 'funny' in Australia. This caused the Muslim population to worry over the fact that the laws were targeted mainly at their community. The prime minsiter said the laws mightn't prevent an attack on home soil but the laws were necessary for the country's safety. Under the new laws the government are given grater powers to stop and search at airports. The article also stated that while Australia had never suffered a major attack, 88 people had been killed in the Bali Bombings in 2002 and that since September 11, security had been immensly tighter and these laws were just a part of that tightening.

What's going on in sunny here.Monday, February 27, 2006

Over here in my town (Can you guess where it is yet?) we've been struck by Commonwealth Games fever. The baton came and stayed the night last Thursday and we had a JAMAICAN festival, it was as boring as anything. I went to school early the next day and saw the baton go past, it was ok. I can't wait to go to the games, it's going to be the greatest. Australia got beaten in the cricket, again. Fantastic... Carlton got beaten too...I just know the teams to go for, don't I? There was a bin near the locker rooms and it stunk like a wet, dead, skunk. And it's making me sick. Other than that, not much is going on at the moment.

Here some more pictures:

Don't be on this flight

"This is Captain Sinclair speaking. On behalf of my crew I'd like to welcome you aboard British Airways flight 602 from New York to London. We are currently flying at a height of 35,000 feet midway across the Atlantic.

"If you look out of the windows on the starboard side of the aircraft, you will observe that both the starboard engines are on fire.

"If you look out of the windows on the port side, you will observe that the port wing has fallen off.

"If you look down towards the Atlantic ocean, you will see a little yellow life raft with three people in it waving at you.

"That's me your captain, the co-pilot, and one of the air stewardesses. This is a recorded message. Have a good flight!"

What I think about my issue...Monday, February 20, 2006

My issue is how under the new terrorism laws, people can be arrested and jailed for up to 2 weeks for being a suspected terrorist. I find this unfair and it will almost certainly lead to racist situations.

I think these laws will distract the goverment and police. While they might lock some terrorists away for two weeks, the tracking of them will leave them unprepared for a major attack on a large city of Australia and the ones they do arrest will just be more aggrevated when they leave the prison.

And what about the poor people who are innocently jailed? I think the whole innocent until proven guilty isn't in effect anymore, In conclusion I think the laws are necessary, but there is no need for them to be so drastic.

A newspaper article about my issue.Monday, February 20, 2006

Australia agrees new terror laws
Sydney International Airport
The measures include tightened security at airports
Australia's federal government has reached agreement with leaders of the country's regions over the enforcement of tough new anti-terror laws.

The state leaders said they would back the law, in return for a promise from Prime Minister John Howard that the measures be reviewed after five years.

They allow terror suspects to be held without charge for up to 14 days.

The move came as a respected think-tank said a terror group blamed for the Bali attacks no longer threatened Australia.

Queensland State Premier Peter Beattie called the new laws - which will also see suspects tracked for up to a year - draconian, but necessary to protect Australians.

Some Muslims have expressed the fear that the measures could be targeted at their community.

'Dangerous circumstances'

Mr Howard said he could not guarantee that Australia would not suffer a major terrorist attack, but the laws "went the necessary distance".

"There has been unanimous agreement coming out of the meeting for major changes that will enhance the security of this country," he said.

"We do live in very dangerous and different and threatening circumstances and a strong and comprehensive response is needed."

But the head of think-tank International Crisis Group (ICG) appeared to question the extent of the threat on Tuesday.

Gareth Evans, a former Australian Foreign Minister, was due to make a speech in Sydney downplaying the terrorist threat to Australia, especially from South East Asian militant group Jemaah Islamiah (JI).

"Such information and analysis as is available to me suggests that the threat to Australians at home and abroad is real but moderate," Mr Evans was expected to say, according to a transcript of his speech released to the media.

"Crisis Group's perception is that the JI regional division that covered Australia has been effectively smashed, and that JI as such no longer constitutes the serious threat to Australia and Australian interests that it previously did.

"And we at Crisis Group have no current information suggesting that there are sleeper cells in Australia, or any thought of targeting Australia in this way," Mr Evans was expected to say.

Intolerance fear

Under the new measures, police will be given greater stop and search powers and a unified command will be set up at the country's airports.

The prime minister added that a strategy would also need to be developed to deal with chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear threats.

But Mr Howard agreed to a "sunset clause", by which the laws will have to be dropped, altered or renewed after 10 years. They will be reviewed half way through this period.

Correspondents say the while the federal government can pass most of the laws it needs the co-operation of the states to ensure they are enforced.

Muslim leaders expressed the fear that the laws would spread intolerance.

"We are concerned that some of the proposals that the government is putting forward [are] putting the perception that the Muslim community is being specifically targeted," Australian Islamic Mission president Zachariah Matthews told local media.

Australia has never suffered a major terrorist attack on home soil, but has tightened security since the 11 September 2001 attacks on the US.

A total of 88 Australians died in bomb attacks on nightclubs on the Indonesian holiday island of Bali in 2002.

Howz it goin'?Monday, February 13, 2006

I'm unsure about what to write today, I need to personalize this blog, but I don't know how. I'm pretty sure no-one's visited this blog except for other peoples in the class. How dull . I watched the cricket yesterday symonds was on fire , Ponting was awesome and Clarke was fairly good too. Katich was crap again, might be time for bye-bye crap boy! I need to put pics in this blog too, might do that at home though. I heard this Vice President of America shot someone...he was trying to shoot a bird!  I watched the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics...how on Earth does Ethiopia and Kenya get in? Everything is so boring at the moment, the whole Earth has gone into like dull mode. I suppose I'll tell you a bit about me! I'm 14 years old, love AFL, Soccer and Cricket, my favourite foods are Maccas, KFC, and Tuna Pasta. I sound like I'm a foodaholic and quite frankly I am. But I'm not fat, I'm like skinny as, which is a bad thing cuz it makes me weak but ah well. I'm about 165 centimetres tall, brown eyes, brown hair with blonde streaks. I'm athletic in an extremely lazy way, I love swimming and I run 5 kilometres on the treadmill 3 nights a week ( just thought I'd have a brag). You now know about me, I'd like to know about you,  post in a comment about yourself!

About this blog.Wednesday, February 8, 2006

Well, I think I know where I'm going to go with this blog now...I think. I'm going to make it mainly about sport with some little bits about unsport stuff... Don't like it? Well, get used to it, K? I'm glad Sri Lanka got into the finals of the VB series because South Africa are boring to watch, I dont like Dippenaar, he looks like a turtle. But I don't like Murali either, he's such a cheat it isn't funny. Think about it, if you put Dippenaar and Murali together you'd get Boettiah Dippelitharan and he'd be a cheating turtle with bulging eyes who can't bat or bowl, so everyone is happy, except for Boettiah. My issue that I have to talk about is the Terroist Laws, I'd rather be cross breeding cricketers, but oh well. The new terrorist laws are racist and unfair, it has the whole country thinking they can get someone who is slightly inimidating arrested for nothing.

Start of blog.Monday, February 6, 2006

Well, we have to do a blog for school so this is it! We have to make you want to come again, I'll have to figure out how to do it bit by bit, I'll get it, don't worry. I'll start by doing this entry and seeing what it looks like and then I'll start to personalize it. We have to talk about an issue in class and I thought I had a pretty good one. It turns out New Zealand offering dog food to Kenya isn't such a good issue, Ahh well. My issue is now some terrorist jail thing, no dog food involved whatsoever. I watched the cricket yesterday, South Africa got smashed! I'm glad Gilchrist didn't make the fastest century, because he would have broken the record I saw him make at the World XI match. I reckon that Katich is finished, even when I saw him in Wangaratta he was pretty boring. I'm watching a stupid video on the computer next to me, I just realized how dangerous pole vault is. I'm having fun watching these videos, most of them are like ballbreakers.
